The House of Delegates has passed a bill -- Senate Bill 46 -- that repeals the Maryland Sales Tax on Computer Services that was enacted during the fall 2007 special session. The bill will be replaced by spending cuts and an income tax surcharge on millionaires.

The bill passed by a 93-44 vote and had recently passed the Senate by a vote of 31-14.

Credit goes to the Maryland Chamber of Commerce, which assembled a broad coalition of businesses to voice the concerns over this tax. The arguments were similar to those we made about tax and CPA services during the special session. Many CPAs added their voices in the last few days as these bills came closer to passing.
