Savedra Scott named MACPA chair as association celebrates 125th anniversary

Savedra Scott, CPA, CGMA, CrFAC, MSA, MBA, owner of Savvy Financial Solutions, has been named chair of the 2026-27 Board of Directors of the Maryland Association of CPAs.

Scott was elected chair by the MACPA membership as part of a festive celebration of the association’s 125th anniversary, held on June 18 at the Junior Achievement of Central Maryland offices in Baltimore. She succeeds Prince George’s County Chief Administrative Officer Maxene Bardwell, CPA, CIGA, CIA, CFE, CISA, CITP, CRMA, who served as 2025-26 chair.

"I am deeply honored to serve as chair of the Maryland Association of CPAs," Scott said. "As someone who dreamed of a career in accounting from an early age, this opportunity feels especially meaningful. As we celebrate the MACPA's 125th anniversary, I look forward to bringing members together, building on the strong foundation laid by those who came before us, and helping inspire the next generation to see the many ways CPAs make a difference in their organizations, communities, and beyond."

An MACPA member since 2007, Scott is an outsourced accountant who has been in business for 13 years and has more than 20 years of experience in the profession. She earned a master's degree in accountancy from George Washington University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Frostburg University. She loves working with non-profit clients, houses of worship, and service-based business to make their lives easier so they can focus on their work while she focuses on the numbers.

“We are excited to welcome Savedra and our entire 2026-27 Board of Directors into these critical leadership roles,” said MACPA CEO Rebekah Olson, CPA. “These volunteer leaders bring tremendous experience, insight, and passion for the profession. Their willingness to serve reflects a deep commitment to Maryland’s accounting and finance community, and we look forward to working with them as we continue helping our members navigate change, build connections, and create new opportunities for success.”

Dr. Jan Williams awarded Teichmann volunteer award

Also at the June 18 event, Dr. Jan Williams was awarded the association’s 2025-26 Max Teichmann Award for her tireless, career-long work on behalf of the MACPA and its members.

Williams, associate professor of accounting and director of the Accounting Honors Program at the University of Baltimore, has dedicated her career to developing future leaders in the profession while also contributing important research in ethics, taxation, and financial reporting.

Her impact has been felt in many ways — from her leadership as chair of the Maryland Board of Public Accountancy to her involvement with the MACPA’s CPA Educators Committee and the time and care she invested this year as a CPA licensure coach for the association’s Emerging Professionals program.

Williams’s service and leadership extend well beyond Maryland. She has served as chair of the AICPA Academic Executive Committee and president of the American Accounting Association Mid-Atlantic Region, and has been recognized with numerous honors for her commitment to education, mentorship, and public service.

“Whether mentoring students, guiding emerging professionals, or helping strengthen the future of the profession, Jan consistently shows up with generosity, wisdom, and heart,” Olson said. “Her dedication to empowering others continues to leave a lasting impact on the CPA community and the many lives she has touched.”

Named in honor of the association’s founder, the Max Teichmann Award recognizes an MACPA member or members who have made significant contributions over the past year on behalf of the profession.

Celebrating the MACPA’s 125th anniversary

The event served as an opportunity to honor the generations of CPAs who have helped shape both the profession and the association through their volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy, and commitment to excellence, with Bardwell noting that the anniversary is more about the MACPA’s people than its longevity.

“For 125 years, members have volunteered their time, shared their expertise, mentored future leaders, advocated for the profession, and invested in one another,” Bardwell said. “Generation after generation chose to leave this profession stronger than they found it.”

Bardwell also recognized the resilience and stewardship of past members who guided the profession through periods of economic uncertainty, technological change, and evolving public expectations while preserving the values of service, integrity, leadership, and trust. She concluded by leading the crowd in a toast to the generations who built the MACPA’s legacy and entrusted it to today’s members, celebrating 125 years of leadership, service, and impact.
