MACPA Foundation raises more than $21,000 to strengthen the profession at 2026 ‘Fairway to the Future’
More than $21,000 was raised during the MACPA Foundation’s third annual Fairway to the Future Golf Tournament to help build the next generation of accounting and finance professionals through scholarships, student programs, mentorship opportunities, and other talent pipeline initiatives.
Held on June 3 at Waverly Woods Golf Club, the event brought together 88 golfers, sponsors, volunteers, students, and supporters for a day of friendly competition and fundraising in support of the MACPA Foundation’s mission to build a strong and diverse talent pipeline for the profession.
“The success of Fairway to the Future demonstrates the accounting community’s commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders,” said MACPA CEO Rebekah Olson, CPA. “Every dollar raised helps create opportunities for students, aspiring CPAs, and emerging professionals. We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and supporters for helping us make a meaningful impact on the future of our profession.”
The tournament’s winning foursome consisted of Darius Taylor, Mike Grant, Tyrone Campbell, and Kenneth Strachan, who captured the championship for the third consecutive year. Continuing a tradition established at previous tournaments, the team donated its top prize — a round of golf at Waverly Woods Golf Club — back to the Foundation, where it will be auctioned during the MACPA’s Elevate & Celebrate event to generate additional support for Foundation programs.
Participants also enjoyed several special contests throughout the day, including a popular “Beat the Pro” challenge hosted by aspiring LPGA professional Mandie Ruminski of BackSwing, a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding opportunities through golf.
During the event, attendees heard updates about the Foundation’s growing impact on students and future CPAs across Maryland. In recognition of the MACPA’s 125th anniversary, the Foundation will award $125,000 in academic scholarships, CPA Exam Fee Scholarships, and CPA Exam Review Scholarships during 2026.
Three scholarship recipients joined participants on the course: Ayomide Ajibola of Morgan State University, Diante Keita of the University of Maryland, and Teyvon Sinvilcin of Morgan State University.
Foundation leaders also highlighted several programs that help strengthen the profession’s future, including:
- More than 2,600 student members receiving access to MACPA resources and professional development opportunities.
- Approximately 530 students impacted through the Student Leadership Academy, including 230 high school students participating through a partnership with AICPA & CIMA.
- More than 475 mentors and mentees connected through the Foundation’s mentorship program.
- The Women to Watch program, which has recognized 224 women leaders since its inception.
- Classroom Connections initiatives that introduce students to careers in accounting and finance.
- The annual CPA Swearing-In Ceremony that celebrates newly licensed CPAs each year.
Attendees also heard from Vi Doan, a University of Maryland accounting student, graduate of the MACPA’s Student Leadership Academy, and recipient of the 2025 Kimberly Ellison-Taylor Scholarship, who shared how Foundation programs have helped shape her professional journey.
The MACPA Foundation extends its appreciation to the event’s sponsors, including Platinum Sponsor GRF, Gold Sponsors Deloitte, EY, SC&H, and Wealthspire; Banquet Sponsor GWCPA; Silver Sponsor RSM; and Bronze Sponsors Tom and Cari White and MAM CPA, LLC.
