Legislative citation pays tribute to MACPA's 125th anniversary

The MACPA will mark its 125th anniversary throughout 2026, and Maryland's CPAs aren’t the only ones who are celebrating.

State Del. William Wivell, a Republican representing District 2A in Frederick and Washington counties, recognized the association’s quasquicentennial on Jan. 22 by presenting MACPA CEO Rebekah Olson with a citation commemorating the occasion during the MACPA’s annual CPA Day in Annapolis.

The citation reads:

“Be it hereby known to all that sincerest congratulations are offered to the Maryland Association of CPAs in recognition of 125 years of service and commitment to the financial accounting industry in Maryland.”

"I'm humbled by and grateful for Del. Wivell's thoughtful citation in our honor," Olson said. "It’s a meaningful reminder that the work CPAs do every day in supporting Maryland businesses, families, and communities truly makes a difference across our state. We’re grateful for Del. Wivell’s partnership and his continued support of the profession and the people we serve.”

The MACPA’s original charter is dated Feb. 12, 1901 and was signed by Max Teichmann, Maryland’s first CPA and the MACPA’s founding president. The charter was also signed by other “founding fathers” of Maryland’s CPA profession, including Frank Blacklock, Eugene Greenway, John Blacklock, Ferdinand Brauns, William Ray, and H.F. Meyer.
