Future Leader: Sharnita Harrison

Future Leader highlights future accounting and finance leaders in Maryland as they share their inspirations, challenges, opportunities, and lessons they’ve learned about leadership and our profession along the way.

1. What inspired you to pursue a career in accounting?

My career path began in banking and tax preparation, where I saw firsthand how financial literacy and accurate reporting can transform both businesses and individuals. Those experiences sparked my interest in the structure and discipline of accounting. As I continued to grow professionally, I recognized that accounting provides not only technical expertise but also the ability to serve as a trusted advisor. That realization inspired me to pursue my master’s degree in accounting and prepare for the CPA exam, with the goal of combining my financial background with the professional rigor of public accounting.
