Town hall takeaways: 2025 HR trends

Laura Jansen, vice president of sales for ADP, led a conversation during the MACPA's monthly town hall meeting on March 21 about the trends in human resources that CPAs and other business leaders need to watch throughout 2025. If you missed the meeting, here are three key takeaways:

1. Trends in talent

  • Eighty-five percent of workers believe AI will impact their jobs in the next two to three years.
  • Employee experience and well-being are ongoing business priorities. Employees who feel cared for by their employer are 92% more likely to feel engaged at work and 65% more likely to remain loyal.
  • Skills have emerged as a strong indicator of employee success. Ninety-four percent of organizations using a skills-based hiring method agree it's more predictive of on-the-job success than resumes.
  • Talent is becoming more geographically dispersed.

2. Trends in compliance

  • New AI laws are shaping how organizations use AI in hiring, manage bias, and ensure fairness.
  • Pay gaps persist, driving the need for more pay equity and pay transparency.
  • Recent developments in wage-and-hour laws are prompting the re-evaluation of employer pay strategies.

3. Trends in technology

  • GenAI continues to revolutionize HR, jobs and the workplace. Sixty-three percent of large businesses have adopted or are piloting GenAI as they try to benefit from its potential.
  • Firms are looking to expand skills to benefit from emerging technologies.
  • Well-being technology is helping firms humanize the employee experience.
