Terps a Top 20 team … in monetary value
The University of Maryland's men's basketball team is back in the Top 20.
No, we're not talking about the AP or coaches' polls. We're talking about Forbes magazine's recent ranking of the 20 most valuable Division I men's basketball programs.
The Terps came in at No. 17 with a value of $13.1 million. The program brings in an annual profit of $7.3 million for the College Park campus. The numbers aren't surprising since, as the magazine states, "a Terrapins ticket is perhaps toughest to come by in all of college hoops."
Topping the list is North Carolina, with a value of $26 million. The Tar Heels were followed by No. 2 Kentucky ($24.9 million), No. 3 Louisville ($24.4 million), No. 4 Arizona ($22.7 million) and No. 5 Duke ($22.6 million).
