Advocate For Our Profession: Join Us for CPA Day 2026
Join Us for CPA Day in Annapolis, January 22, 2026
Maryland CPAs have a powerful story to tell. On January 22, 2026, we will bring that story to Annapolis for MACPA’s Annual CPA Day, and we want you with us.
If you have never attended before, you are not alone. Many members feel uncertain about what to expect. We understand that hesitation, and we make sure every participant is fully prepared. You will be teamed with fellow CPAs from your legislative district, receive talking points in advance, and have a clear plan before any meeting begins. Your role is to share your experience and insight as a trusted professional. We handle the logistics so you can focus on the conversations that matter.
Why your visit matters

Legislators want to hear directly from CPAs. You are on the front line helping businesses, individuals, and communities navigate Maryland’s tax and financial systems. That perspective is unique and influential.
When policymakers understand how proposals affect real clients and real firms, better decisions follow. Your presence in Annapolis has an impact that cannot be replaced by email or written testimony.
MACPA’s Key issues for 2026
1. Modernizing CPA licensure
MACPA supports a new experience based pathway for CPA candidates to help strengthen the talent pipeline and support employers facing workforce shortages. This pathway recognizes structured experience and reduces barriers for qualified professionals. It keeps Maryland competitive while maintaining the rigor and trust of the CPA credential.
2. No sales tax on services
MACPA continues to oppose extending Maryland’s sales tax to professional services. The 2025 proposals showed how disruptive and costly such a tax would be for businesses, families, and the economy. It would raise operating costs, introduce unworkable sourcing and compliance challenges, and reduce Maryland’s competitiveness.
3. Support proper funding for the Comptroller’s Office
Maryland’s tax administration system depends on sufficient staffing and modern technology. Additional funding is needed to complete ongoing modernization efforts and fully support tax administration functions statewide.
4. Retain Maryland’s contributory negligence rule
MACPA opposes replacement of Maryland’s contributory negligence standard with comparative negligence. Changing this long standing rule would increase litigation, raise insurance premiums, and create higher costs for businesses and consumers.
