Low savings = high anxiety for many Americans
Our nation's economy may be holding its own, but our own personal economies are in dire straits.
That's the view of Shira Boss, author of Green With Envy: A Whole New Way to Look at Financial (Un)Happiness. In a recent interview with National Public Radio, Boss said many Americans have lost the ability to live within their means, and that's creating a great deal of anxiety in households throughout the country.
"We need to take a close look at our expenses and start trimming the fat," Boss told NPR's Renee Montagne. And when it comes to the "Big Three" -- housing, transportation and food -- Boss said you'll need to think creatively to cut those expenses. She offers some tips for doing so.
